Miguel Alejandro Machado Suarez is a painter in the traditional sense of the word, with the thoroughness and spirit of a bygone era but with highly contemporary themes. His paintings deal with ego, humanity and our subconscious emotional states. Machado invites us into intricately crafted worlds of characters, while constantly employing a hint of humor. His mind and temporal style are displayed on the canvas in unique ways, often paying homage to Romanticism, as well as his Renaissance-era influences.
Miguel Machado was born in 1990 and raised in the small town of Sandino in western Cuba. His family later moved to the port of Mariel where his father worked as a sailor. His family settled in Havana so Miguel could attend the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), the country’s top art institute, from which he graduated in 2014. The next year, his work was selected for the Havana Biennale and has since been shown in galleries around the world, including in Los Angeles and Hamburg, Germany. Machado lives and works in Havana.
